Signing Smart Workshop for Early Communication

(Ideal for important adults in the lives of infants and toddlers)

The Signing Smart Beginner Workshop is intended for those new to signing with their child as well as for those who have already started and are looking for support during the early phases. More than just motivating participants to sign, this workshop helps parents, extended family, teachers, and caregivers develop a plan for successfully signing with research-proven Signing Smart strategies and techniques. These techniques are typically recommended for use with children from 6 months – 2 years of age. However, the same approach may offer rewarding advancements for older children with verbal and/or cognitive delays, as well.

Participants will learn the Signing Smart Start - how many and which signs to use in the early stages - as well as how to increase sign vocabulary as time goes on. In addition, participants will learn to how create interactions in which children most easily learn signs, how to bring signs into a child's world, and how to recognize a child's first signs.

Ohio Approved*

Through instructor presentation, interactive activities and discussion, and video examples, participants will learn over 35 ASL signs, as well as receive tools, strategies, and resources that will enable them to experience the success of Signing Smart from the very first day.

* This workshop may be taken for professional development credit by early childhood professionals in Ohio.
